All Killer (content), No Filler (commercials)

Local TV news has slowly gone the way of the dinosaur in regards to finding out breaking news.  People no longer need to rely on their local television stations to learn about break news stories.  Social media has become my personal outlet for all things news.  Why tune in at 11pm for news about stories that broke 7 hours ago on Twitter?  What can local television do to make their program compelling?  The answer is providing more news stories, shorter news stories, and offering their content in real-time.

Is there any reason King 5 news couldn't provide their news on-demand?  How about offering the 11 o'clock news via video podcast at 5pm?  How about offering shorter news stories and more frequent news stories?  Aside from the Super Bowl, people don't want to sit through a live television show when they can record the show and watch at their own convenience.

I would prefer to watch a 3 minute short video on the latest in Seattle crime at 6:30am the following morning with my coffee instead of sitting through the 11 o'clock 30 minute news the previous night.  In a world of 140 twitter character attention spans, people want all killer (content) no filler (commercials).  Offering compelling real-time content and feedback from social media is the only way I see local TV becoming compelling enough to watch.... That or hiring this guy to read the news:
