What are strategies a small business or individual entrepreneur can use to start a dialog with a potential client? Here's a way that worked.
My manager received this letter in the mail almost a year ago, and got such a kick out of it, he showed it to me. This letter is appealing for several reasons. Here's my favorite:
"… you must be busy and I want to make our first meeting convenient for you. So, rather than meet for coffee, I thought I'd send the coffee along. That way, we can begin our chat as you read these pages over a fresh, hot cup."
I love the idea of reading a letter while sipping a hot cup of coffee! And that my time is respected.
She goes on to let me know she has 25 years of experience, shares testimonials, then she offers a free strategy session. And she has done some homework by reviewing our company Website.
The follow up to this letter has been through periodic emails and phone calls, not too often, and no pressure, just enough so I don't forget about her and her business.
I haven't acted on this yet, but I have saved it, and think about it more and more, especially after these certificate program classes. I want to hire her because she has done such a great job on marketing herself, I think she could help our company. Her last line (on p. 2, not shown) says:
Information is Important
Story is Essential

That is a very clever opening! I'd be more receptive to it if she sent Starbucks Via instead, though. ;)
