Backcountry.com owns and runs a site called SteepandCheap.com that offers one usually amazing deal at a time until it is gone or the time limit for that deal is up. Usually the offers are high quality goods but from last year or overstock items.
The following is an example of deal that popped up and why I think they do an excellent job of Internet Marketing:
Men's Marmot Down Jacket: Retails for $249.95 - But it in the next 10 minutes 58 seconds and get it for $119.95 - a 52% Savings - over HALF OFF!!
Most Important Things First:
-Description: What is it and who makes it
-Great pictures sell products
-Price is front and center and includes the discount
-Invitation to buy - Add to Cart button
(on a side/funny note - it seems they are buying my searches from google as they are advertising Green Mountain Coffee to me - a company I have been doing research on - lol!)
Scroll down the page and you get more details and color/size options:
-Easy to click on color and main picture changes - you do not leave the main page
-Pictures are of the item in the color offered - not a square of green
Keep scrolling and you have an easy to read size/fit chart:
(notice the advertising for a car on the right hand side? - I have been shopping for that exact car this last week!)
Finally at the bottom you have review by other buyers/users of the product:
steepandcheap.com does a great job marketing and selling is products.
Some of the traits that makes it great:
Deals are mostly all 50% off retail or more
Clean and simple website
Great photos.
Easy to buy - low # of clicks to purchase
One page - you don't have to go back an forth to find more information - its all one the page
Sense of urgency - This deal is here now but may never come back again. ever
