So good you're searching through junk mail

When I scan my junk mail folder seconds before clicking "empty folder" I never regret that click. However, I have found myself actually opening a newsletter that gets sent to my junk mail.

This is not to be taken lightly. Ahem.

I started to dislike the term "newsletter" because it was a crafty way to send out visual noise that rendered no useful news. There was little news and lots of advertising.

Then came along Mother Nature Network. I'm not a card-carrying Green party environmentalist (such organizations cause me to use such acerbic titles) but there was something about the website and newsletter that was nice to read: it was calm, soothing, peaceful. I wasn't bombarded. The content is helpful. The newsletter delivers tips and strategies. It aims to help the reader rather than empty their account. And the stories are interesting and easy to follow on how to cook well, keep the air clean and stay abreast on all the cool things happening to help our planet. The payoff? Well, it's ad free except for an ad from Walmart. While there isn't a lot of profit, they are directing people to these ads and the content is so fresh that I will keep reading...
