Well, I don't watch the news...for these reasons:

-they pick the topics to focus on
-its broadcasted at times that are not convenient for me (I don't watch any TV during original broadcasting times anyway. Everything in my home is recorded)
-its too flashy/fake
-its loud
-its 30 minutes of depression

So, how to improve the news. Make it interactive. Let the viewer decide which topics to watch and when to watch it. Maybe get an Xbox channel so I can see the news topics and select which ones I want to watch.  That's why I love to read the news. I can go to Yahoo or Bing and select the stories I want to read about and on my own time. If I don't want to read about the latest trends, I can skip right over them. If I want to focus on Obama's pick for Defense Secretary, then I'll read the multitude of articles relating to that. If the daily news is too depressing, I can switch to a story that is more entertaining to reset my brain. Ultimately, I'm in control, and I like it that way. In addition, I like to read the news sometimes when I'm watching TV. You know, to briefly check-in on the world during an episode. I'm guilty of multi-screening. TV. Cell phone. Tablet. I have not yet been able to master watching two videos at the same time. But reading and watching, I can do that.

Recently a local news station did a report on securing schools and they came to our office and interviewed our company. I wanted to watch the segment on the computer and see how the story came out. Well, I could not find the story on the news station's website the next day anywhere. I was incredibly disappointed. It seemed ridiculous that it was not front and center or at least searchable.

I would like news stations to take their cue from digital news feeds. Give viewers the control. Allow them to decide what to watch and when to watch it.

Even then though, I think I would still prefer having my news delivered to me in the silent form of reading.

Curious, is this a question the news stations are asking to find ways to increase viewership? Or just a random topic question?
