There are many advantages to real time marketing, including
timeliness, instant customer feedback, and customer engagement.
First, using social media as a way to market products is a
must these days. With about 1 billion people on Facebook and around 500 million
Twitter users, social media is now providing a virtual playground to touch
customers. If a company is looking to launch a new product, Facebook and
Twitter will get the new product information into users hands faster than
traditional marketing, which can take up to 2-3 months for a full campaign to
begin generating the demand.
Second, when a company is currently marketing in real time,
they can receive customer feedback within a day or two of product launch. They
can find out what the customer likes and dislikes about a particular product
and make adjustments to products or an advertising scheme faster than the
traditional days. Never before have marketers been able to have such a quick
response on campaigns.
Third, customers have the ability to post and/or comment on
Facebook pages and use hash tag references on Twitter to engage with a company.
If a product does not meet a customer’s satisfaction, all it takes is one negative
post to the company to spread the word throughout the internet. A company needs
to be proactive and protect their brand. When these negative referrals occur,
the company needs to immediately engage the customer to fix any bad publicity
they may receive. Never before have companies been able to have real one-on-one
conversations about products with customers in such an open forum and turn a
negative message into a positive engagement.
