It's hard to imagine life before social media. What did people do before Facebook and Twitter? How did people keep in touch? It's pretty amazing what social media has done for people these days. We're living in a connected world all thanks to social platforms and this image on the left helps explains the different ways we use it to describe the same thing.
Tackling the question at hand: What business/brand site on Facebook do you think does a great job and why?
I don't generally use Facebook to connect with businesses but there are a few companies that I have liked. The most recent is Amazon. Considering the changing dynamics between businesses and consumers, what I liked most about Amazon's Facebook page is its "human" feeling. Unlike other business' page that pushes out coupons and promotes deals, Amazon encourages interaction and talks about things that matter.
Since today is Martin Luther King Day, Amazon posted this quote:
“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
What small thing can you do today?

Although Amazon is promoting Martin Luther King Jr books through the URL, the message is extremely subtle and got over 12,000 likes and 1,000 shares. People cared about the meaning and "challenge" Amazon put out. Some people responded with "do something unexpected for someone" and "appreciate life." Another post they did was in reference to the NFL Conference Championship games last Sunday. Amazon asked a question any regular person would ask:
Who do you think will win the NFL Conference Championship games this weekend? http://amzn.to/13NKfhz
Some may see businesses on social media differently, but if it is used right, is a great way for companies to cut through the clutter. Social media allows companies to seem human but also promote some great perks that people might be interested in (i.e.--Amazon's posted offers). With over 16 million likes and 400,000 people talking about them, Amazon must be doing something right!
