What are the advantages of Real Time Marketing?

Well, I'm not exactly sure I'll be doing this assignment correctly or not. I know how Real Time Marketing has effected me lately. I was very excited to follow all the twitter posts from last week's CES (Consumer Electronics Show). New, nerdy tech products were being released and I was all a-twitter with excitement. As press conferences were being held, my phone was magically alerted to future products. My mind was excited by their virtual arrival. A new tablet here, a new phone there, and what, a flexible screen?!

With every tweet came a link and if the product was relevant to my inner-geek, I followed that link like a bat out of hell. A list of products collected in my brain. I'm currently browsing the interwebs for a new computer, or specifically, a tablet PC running Windows 8.  Last month I would have told you I was rushing to buy a Microsoft Surface Pro the moment they arrived at the Microsoft store, especially as I am a stock holder. Must support my investment! However, after last week's twitter storm, I'm doubting my initial decision. Now my mind has more questions. Should I wait for the Surface Pro to come out this month? Should I hold out another 2 months for the MSI Slider S20 to hit the stores? Should I save more money to buy that sweet looking Lenovo ThinkPad Helix? My purchasing decision is officially delayed.  My money is going to stay in the bank.

How did MSI and Lenovo stray me off my original, well thought out plan? Clever marketing. A large tradeshow with an even larger Twitter presence alerted me to their products impending arrival. I better not tell Microsoft. Damn them for not being at the show. They lost their Twitter presence and might have lost a sale in the process.

What are the advantages of Real Time Marketing? Something I'll call the Attraction/Distraction model. Someone or something will attract my attention in real time and if someone else wants my attention, they'll have to distract me from the other, and pretty quick too. Real Time Marketing did that for me last week. I'm now attracted to at least two other tablets and highly distracted from my original decision. Sorry Microsoft. Your CES silence bored me. I'm still a big Xbox fan though.

  1. And I thought I was the only CES geek. Awesome! Are you as intrigued by the smart fork though?!

    1. The smart fork. I was not intrigued...however I was entertained. I suppose it was an interesting concept. I think I would prefer one that yelled at me though...like "Hey fatty! Slow down!" or "I can hear your butt getting bigger." Now that would be awesome! Can you imagine being at some classy joint like Daniel's Broiler with the Smart A** Fork?! Now...I want that tech tool!! :)
